All about the Sussex Historic Churches Trust About the Trust Introducing the Sussex Historic Churches Trust The Sussex Historic Churches Trust was founded in 1956 to give grants for essential repairs and restoration of places of worship of architectural and historic interest throughout Sussex. We are delighted to say that since 1956, the Trust has assisted more than 500 churches and places of worship across Sussex. Our primary aim is to preserve the churches and chapels of historic and architectural interest, which are in use for worship, throughout Sussex. In this context, 'historic' means buildings which are at least 100 years old and we offer help through grants for specific repairs to the fabric of the building. At the best of times it is difficult to raise funds for repairs entirely by local effort; sometimes the target seems out of reach. Today however, there are increasing financial pressures on all congregations, and there is therefore an increasing need around the country for church preservation grants and the Trust will help where possible. Raising money to fund repairs The Sussex Historic Churches Trust Income is derived from donations, bequests, investments and the annual Sponsored Ride + Stride event. Donations come from individuals, societies and some parishes. If you are not already contributing in this way, please consider doing so. Every contribution will expand the help the Trust can give. Sponsored Sussex Ride + Stride is a great way to see some of the wonderful historic buildings in Sussex and raise much needed funds on a fun day out. Who we are The Sussex Historic Churches Trust is run by a small board of dedicated trustees from a variety of backgrounds; all live in the counties of East & West Sussex. See our Trustees page for more details. As a Registered Charity, we publish our annual reports & accounts .
